Alma Alumni Project

Last month the first two participants, Karina and Esmeralda, in our Alma Alumni project moved into their new home in Cusco.

The Alma Alumni project is a brand new initiative where we support some of the best students who have passed through our projects over the years and are now continuing their higher education studies in Cusco. Alma is assisting the students with housing and tuition costs, while the students’ families cover all other expenses.

Both Karina and Esmeralda graduated last year from secondary school in Colcha, a school which Alma helped expand to offer all five grades of secondary school. The first graduating class was Esmeralda’s and Karina’s.

We were so impressed by Karina’s and Esmeralda’s guinea pig micro-enterprise projects (a required project to graduate from the Colcha secondary school), that we felt we had to continue helping them with their studies in order to assure that they reached their full potential. Both girls have been in Cusco with us since January and are doing great with their preparations for the university/technical institute entrance exams. They are both very responsible, fun, and energetic, and we look forward to seeing them grow both personally and professionally.
