Our partnership agreement with the Juan Misael Saracho Higher Teacher Training School (ESFM) concludes this year. The term of the current leadership team is also ending, making way for new leadership in 2027. Amidst this transition, we received welcome news: after meeting to discuss the matter, administrators, faculty, and students voted to renew the agreement with Alma for the 2027–2029 period.
For us, this decision reflects the trust built through our day-to-day collaboration. Those who have shared this journey recognize Alma’s contribution and want our support to continue, regardless of the change in leadership.
Over the past four years, we have worked alongside both the students and the teachers who train them. We support future teachers in making the most of a pivotal experience in their five-year training program: community-based educational practice, known as IEPC–PEC. This practice takes them into public school classrooms, where they teach, test pedagogical strategies, and investigate ways to improve the educational realities they encounter. Alma provides them with tools for critical thinking, emotional education, lesson planning, and research, enabling them to better meet the needs of children and adolescents.
We have worked with ESFM faculty on pedagogical strategies and thought-provoking questions for them to incorporate into their own classrooms. This year, we also delved deeper into educational research methodology, encouraging teachers to investigate their own practices and feel better prepared to guide their students; we believe that what future teachers experience and learn during their training shapes their future teaching methods.
The decision to continue working together acknowledges this journey and reminds us that there is still much to be done. Improving teacher training requires time, ongoing support, and opportunities to put what has been learned into practice.
Thanks to those who sustain Alma’s work, we are able to ensure the continuity of these processes. We are delighted that the educational community wishes to continue working with us; we accept this trust with gratitude and a commitment to keep learning and working together.
