Although the work of the Alma Foundation at the ESFM “Clara Parada de Pinto” focuses primarily on supporting and training its students, our work often extends beyond the classroom and is present in other academic and cultural activities of the institution. These spaces remind us that teacher training doesn’t only happen in workshops, but also in the connections and experiences shared within the educational community.
Since last year, we have frequently received invitations to participate in pedagogical strategy competitions, thesis defenses, opening ceremonies, anniversary celebrations, and many other events organized by the ESFM. For us, these invitations are more than a formality: they reflect a relationship of trust and collaboration built with the authorities and students, who recognize us as close allies in initial teacher training.
In August, we had the privilege of participating in the Multidisciplinary Academic Meeting on Methodological and Didactic Teaching Strategies, an event aimed at strengthening the training of future teachers through the exchange and sharing of pedagogical proposals. On this occasion, we were invited to serve as judges to evaluate the presentations of four student groups. This, beyond the role itself, holds special significance for us: the fact that the ESFM (Higher School of Teacher Training) considers us an active part of a purely academic event is a clear demonstration of the recognition of Alma’s contribution through its pedagogical approach.
The most valuable aspect was witnessing that, without seeking any additional benefit—no grades, certificates, or external rewards—the students chose to apply strategies we have shared in our training programs, such as “grouping” and “spelling bingo.” Furthermore, we were delighted to hear how some of them embraced principles that we convey with conviction in our workshops related to critical thinking. Seeing these ideas reflected in their presentations confirmed for us that the constant and close support is making a difference in their development.
At Alma, we are convinced that it is precisely these small but significant examples that confirm the strength of our work. We believe that the key to achieving lasting changes in education lies in cultivating close relationships, maintaining a consistent presence, and forging meaningful connections with students and administrators. Thus, each encounter becomes an opportunity to build trust, strengthen learning, and contribute to building an education that transforms lives and the future of our country.
